ShCT spearheads ‘STEP’ Program
The Engineering Department (ED) of Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) spearheaded “STEP: Step towards Endurable Partnership” Program on May 23, 2017.
Alumni and dignitaries working in private and government establishments graced this event, organized by ED’s Alumni Committee.
In the opening program, ShCT Dean Dr. Khalid Zayed Al-Muharami welcomed the notable alumni and corporate representatives as he underscored the need to: a) reduce the gap between the academia and the industry, b) understand the pulse of the current job market, their needs and requirements, and c) improve the quality of our graduates.
Dr. Khalid also expressed that ShCT is open to whatever changes required for its improvement as he acknowledged the significant role played by the alumni on this regard.
Dr. Mahmoud Khazalah, ED’s Head of Civil Section, thanked the representatives of the different industries for coming forward to join hands with ShCT in this initiative.
He also stressed the need to update the current curriculum and program outcomes as per the requirement/needs of the job market.
Dr. Mahmoud also informed the participants that a mutual agreement has been setup between ShCT and the Al Badi Group of Companies.
Themed ‘Engineering Alumni Reconnect,’ the STEP program aimed to systematically involve alumni in the review process: a) to identify the skillsets required by the job market, b) to properly evaluate programs and courses offered, c) to identify new specializations and technology trends in the market, d) to collect feedback on graduate attributes, and e) to facilitate direct interaction between students and alumni.
“STEP: Step towards Endurable Partnership” is a platform that aims to bring together stakeholders from the academe and the industry, particularly the notable alumni of the College.
