Electrical Engineering students visit EV charging station at Crowne Plaza, Sohar
Electrical vehicles are the future of transportation, so the Sultanate of Oman is preparing to accommodate this change, by building the necessary infrastructure. The first Electrical Vehicle charging station in North Batinah region was commissioned in January 2018, as ‘Green Parking’ at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Sohar. Mrs. Agata Palyska-Hanefioui, Sales Manager at the Crowne Plaza and Mr Mahesh from the Engineering Department coordinated the visit.Three Electrical Engineering students, who currently doing a project titled “Electrical Vehicles – present status and future of Oman” as part of their bachelor’s degree (under supervision of Mr. Mahesh Aphale) visited the charging station on Wednesday, 17th November 2021. Engineer Hamood Mubarak Al Zaabi, of the Engineering Department at Crowne Plaza described the features and capacity of the EV charging station and explained that the charging station can charge up to four electric vehicles at a time.The visit provided useful insights for the engineering students and helped them gain an understanding of the infrastructure required for the operation of Electric Vehicles.
