A group of 17 Mechanical Engineering students visited Sohar Power Plant (Stage 3) of Shinas Generating Company SAOG, on November 20, 2019.

The industrial visit aimed at keeping the students updated with the operation of gas turbines in power generation.

During the visit, Health and Safety Engineer Sultan Al Balushi discussed the safety precautions that must be followed while inside the plant, while Plant Engineer Mr. Mohammed Al Maqbali shed light on the following topics: open cycle system, combined cycle system and gas turbine (GT) power plant.

He also gave the students a tour to the company’s GT 22 power plant and the Control Unit where he showed them the gas turbines, HP & LP compressors, combustion chamber, heat recovery steam generator and electrical generators.

Engineering Department (ED) lecturer Dr. Jinnah Sheik Mohammed accompanied the students in the said visit.
