Bachelor major in Mechanical Engineering students visit STOMO
A group of Bachelor major in Mechanical Engineering (ME) students visited Suhar Power & Desalination Plant (STOMO) on March 8, 2018.
STOMO’s Health and Safety Officer Mr. Yaqoob Al-Saadi gave a brief presentation about the company while Operation Engineer Mr. Tariq Al-Maqbali gave a short lecture and site visit in the power generation and water treatment plant.
Students had the opportunity of observing and understanding the safety procedures that are followed in industries, operational and maintenance processes for producing the power and converting sea water into the distilled water. They observed the plant’s major equipment like gas turbine of 123 SMW each, hybrid burners for premix and diffusion mode operation with both natural gas and distillate fuel oil used for NOx control, supplementary fired HRSGs (Boilers), condensing steam turbine, and multistage flash evaporation vessel and brine heater. The operation and maintenance of the plant is carried out by STOMO under a contract with the owner, Sohar Operations and Maintenance Company.
Said visit was organized by ME Section of the Engineering Department in cooperation with On-the-job (OJT) Department of the College.
