UTAS Shinas wins English Debate competition in Sohar
A team of four students from the English Club were selected to represent UTAS Shinas in a Debate Competition, held at the English Language Centre at UTAS Sohar, on Thursday 31st March 2022. The Shinas team members went to UTAS Sohar, to debate about the popular mobile operating systems, Android versus IOS. Among the panel of four judges were Ms Lorie Keener and Mr Zein Galal from UTAS Sohar, who were accompanied by English Lecturers Ms Amira Al Balushi and Mr Given Chakalisa from Shinas. The opposing team consisted of four students from UTAS Sohar who argued that Android was a better operating system compared to IOS. The Shinas team successfully convinced the panel of judges that IOS was the better mobile operating system due to its practical features, camera quality, security and environmental considerations. The winning team consisted of post foundation students; Hafsah Al Maskari, Utba Al Waili, Al Mamoon Al Whibi and Faisal Al Balushi. The supervisors Ms Safiya Al Makhmari and Ms Amira Al Balushi, from the Student Support Committee, commented that the event was a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with our colleagues in Sohar and a perfect chance for the students to develop their persuasive skills and gain confidence to speak to a diverse audience.
