UTAS Shinas Hosts Successful 10th International ELT Symposium: Navigating Tomorrow's Talent

The Staff Professional Development Team of the English Language Centre at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences Shinas organized a remarkable online event, the 10th International ELT Symposium titled, Education, Learning, and Teaching: Navigating Tomorrow's Talent on 16th March 2023 Sponsored by UTAS-Shinas and Sohar International Bank, the symposium served as a platform for exchanging ideas, research findings, and best practices in education. Moreover, this event was a significant milestone for UTAS-Shinas as it marked a decade of hosting ELT Symposiums, making it a vital contribution to the advancement of education and learning.The symposium attracted around 600 participants and was graced with the presence of the Vice Chancellor of UTAS, His Excellency Dr Saeed Al Rubaie, and the Dean of UTAS Shinas, Dr Ahmed Al Shahry. Their presence added value to the symposium and highlighted its significance in shaping the future of education.The symposium brought together an impressive lineup of 26 experts from across the field of education. The plenary speaker, Professor David Crystal, is a renowned linguist, author, and academic from the UK. Dr Homa S. Tavangar, a global education expert and author, also shared her extensive insights and experience. Presenters from Oman and 12 other countries including the UK, USA, Iran, India, Pakistan, KSA, Argentina and Morocco, shared their perspectives on various topics, including global education, linguistic evolution, perceptions about online learning, the impact of English as a result of its global reach, and the use of movies to evoke emotions and enhance critical thinking skills. The symposium also explored the future of the role of teachers and the invention of artificial intelligence tools such as Chat GPT.The symposium was a great success, providing exceptional opportunities for all to learn and navigate through the ever-changing landscape of education. The management of UTAS-Shinas congratulated the Staff Professional Development Team of the English Language Centre for organizing such a fantastic event, with such a diverse range of topics and renowned international presenters.
