Shinas College of Technology spearheads ‘Confluence 2017: Industry-Academia Meet’
Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) spearheaded a meeting between industry professionals and academicians dubbed ‘Confluence 2017: Industry-Academia Meet’ at Sohar Beach Hotel, Sohar City on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
The industry professionals and academicians came up with two major points: continuous improvement is the key, and the new generation should value the employment requirements and opportunities for entrepreneurship.
This event is the first of its kind and resulted to a white paper to be presented before the Ministry of Manpower to bring about changes in the Course Delivery and Outcomes of the courses offered at BSD
A one-day program, Confluence featured two major sessions. Dr. Hilal Al Hinai, General Manager of ORPIC’s Corporate Support Services was the chief guest; whereas, Engineer Abdulmonem Al Murshidi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Vale Oman was the distinguished guest.
Participants included a number of higher-level management professionals from a range of industries representing Petrochemicals, Aluminum, Iron and Steel, Oil Marketing, Plastic industries, Training and HR consultancy.
ShCT Dean Dr. Khalid Zayed Al-Muharrami in his opening speech expressed gratitude to the esteemed guests and solicited their cooperation in future events like this.
Engineer Abdulmonem Al Murshidi addressed the gathering and emphasized the need for continuous interaction between the academia and the industry. He also underscored that commitment from both sides can bring fruitful results.
While setting the agenda for the event, BSD’s Coordinator for the Industrial Liaison Committee Dr. Suneel Kumar elaborated on the importance of collaboration between the industry and the academe.
The event was sponsored by ORPIC, Technical and Administrative Training Institute, Sohar Aluminium, Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel LLC., and Muna Noor Plastic Industries LLC.
The event was organized by ShCT’s Business Studies Department (BSD) to bring industry professionals and academic experts to one platform to discuss the industry expectations from business schools and to elicit insights about the future talent requirements of the industry.
