Hands-on Basic Network Design
The IT Department of UTAS-Shinas recently conducted a “Hands-on Basic Network Design” workshop for the community from 30th April to 2nd May 2023. The workshop was held in the Networking Course Project Lab and was aimed at providing students and community members with a practical understanding of network design, configuration, and troubleshooting. Led by Mr Syed Mehr, a lecturer in the IT Networking Section, the workshop covered a range of topics, including the creation of straight-through and crossover Ethernet cables, wiring keystone jacks in a LAN design, and testing cables using a cable tester. Participants were also taught how to navigate the IOS using Putty, configure basic settings on a Cisco switch, configure remote access on Cisco switches, and configure and connect end devices. In addition, participants were introduced to configuring basic settings in Cisco routers, configuring remote access on a Cisco router, and configuring different LANs with the help of a router. The workshop was highly interactive, with 19 participants attending and engaging in hands-on exercises and practical demonstrations. One of the highlights of the workshop was the opportunity for participants to practice what they learned on actual networking devices. This provided them with invaluable experience and gave them the confidence to apply their new knowledge in real-world situations. Upon completion of the workshop, participants were awarded certificates to recognize their achievement.
