English Only Zone’ Coffee Morning for Level 1 Students boosts English Skills
The English Language Center (ELC) Community Engagement Committee recently organized a tea and coffee morning for Level 1 students in the canopy area of the ELC. The event which took place on Wednesday 15th March 2023, aimed to create an English-only zone to encourage students to practice speaking in English and polish up their conversational skills. The event was a great success, with a large turnout of enthusiastic level 1 students, eager to improve and develop their English speaking skills. Speaking and listening lecturers from level 1 were joined by other English lecturers and members of the English Club, to chat with students in an informal context. This event provided level 1 students with valuable opportunities to practice their small talk skills. Mr. Salim Al Badi, the coordinator of the CEC, reiterated the importance of creating opportunities for students to talk in English outside of the classroom. He emphasized that this was an essential component of language learning and development, as it allowed students to put their knowledge into practice and develop their confidence and fluency. The tea and coffee morning was a fun and relaxed way for students to practice their English speaking skills, and they enjoyed the opportunity to interact with their teachers and fellow students in a friendly and supportive environment. The event was a resounding success and demonstrated the ELC's commitment to providing students with a range of engaging and innovative language learning opportunities. The Community Engagement Committee plans to organize more events like this in the future, and students are eagerly looking forward to the next one.
