As part of its staff professional development (SPD) program, the IT staff actively participated in a seminar-cum-workshop on Stress Management on October 20, in the College Multi-Purpose Hall. Dr.Kalyana Thirunagari, from the English Language Center facilitated the said seminar-cum-workshop.

The presenter, Dr.Kalyana Thirunagari, shared that two-thirds of the work force are suffering from work-related stress, according to a study conducted by the Incentive   Compensation Management. He emphasized that nowadays, 85% of the GenY population experience stress due to the usage of social media. Additionally, he mentioned the 18 things mentally strong people do; in the absence of these things, stress is usually felt. Further, he explained the correlation that exists between anxiety, irritability, and sleeplessness.

Most importantly, the presenter encouraged the audience to self-check for stress or burn-out signs. These, he said can be felt by checking for physical, behavioral and emotional symptoms. He asked the audience to answer the stress indicators’ inventory checklist. After calling attention to the ill-effects of stress, he shared with the participants possible methods and techniques employed to de-stress or relax. He mentioned the use of exercises, yoga, etc. Likewise, Dr. Thirunagiri also stressed on the importance of taking responsibility for the decisions we make to avoid stress.

After the talk, Ms. Amina Al-Jabri, HoD of IT, thanked Dr. Kalyan Thirunagari.She encouraged the audience to apply the techniques learned so that productivity and performance can be improved.

This workshop is a part of the training program planned and organized by the IT Department’s SPD Committee.
