IT Diploma II Students visit Sohar Aluminum
IT Diploma II students, enrolled in the Software Engineering course visited Sohar Aluminum (SA) to discuss and explore the software development activities being done as well as to see its data centre on March 6, 2017.
Mr. Suleiman Al-Mamari, Software Developer in SA welcomed the group and presented SA’s Health and Safety Program through an induction video. He demonstrated the SAP, an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application.
Automation Engineer Mr. Ahmed Al-Shibli, explained how the automation of machines is done, and shared the tools used to control the various systems in the company.
Network Engineer Mr. Pradeep, escorted the group to the data center, and explained the different servers the company has.
Mr. Othman Al-Balushi, IT Department Head of the company, answered several questions raised by the students and staff. Mr. Abdullah Al-Mamari, the Business Applications Supervisor, together with another IT staff member encouraged the students to develop not only their technical skills but also their soft skills.
Ms. Asma Al-Sinani a Software Developer and a ShCT alumna motivated the students to excel in academics as well as in extra-curricular activities. She urged the students to hone their communication and leadership skills by joining organizations or clubs such as Toastmaster’s Club, etc.
Ms. Madhubala and Mr. Edgardo Dalan, both IT Lecturers, accompanied the students.
