Database Students Visit ITA
IT students specializing in Database visited the Information Technology Authority (ITA) – e.Oman at Knowledge Oasis, Muscat, on February 24, 2016.
The main objective of the visit was for the students, who are currently enrolled in Distributed Database System, Data Warehouse, Data Administration, Web Application Database Security, and Data Modeling, to understand G-Cloud and FOSS Initiative.
ITA Senior Solution Architect and G-Cloud Initiative Manager Mr. Khalid Al-Rahbi briefed the participants about the strategic move in the Sultanate of Oman to unleash the potential benefits of cloud technology to the government and its people.
Mr. Khalid mentioned that there is a shared IT infrastructure established to serve the IT requirements of ITA and other government entities.
ITA Officer Mr. Suleiman Al-Jabri coordinated the said session.
In the second session, the presentation focused on the FOSS Initiative, which was launched last March 2010 during the Free and Open Source Software Symposium in Muscat.
The students were informed that the FOSS initiative aimed to encourage innovation, boost software development, develop talents and skills, and create the necessary resources and infrastructure to increase commercialization and industry adoption.
IT Lecturers Mr. Bala Dhandayuthapani and Mr. Kumar Mohan accompanied the students in the said industry visit.
The industry visit was organized by the Industrial Link Committee of the IT Department.
