Advanced Diploma IT Students visit Sohar Aluminum
Nine (9) IT advanced diploma students specializing in software engineering and database had their industry visit at Sohar Aluminum, Sohar Port March 2, 2016.
Mr. Suleiman Al-Mamari, junior software developer, welcomed the group as he explained to them the use of the SAP software and how the company is customizing the said software according to their needs and procedures.
Junior software developer Ms. Asma Al-Senani, a BTech in Software Engineering graduate of ShCT, also shared her knowledge about SAP and the different design practices of the company.
Mr. Khalid Al-Shibli, automation engineer, lectured on the automation of machines as he showed the different devices used for automation.
The network engineer of the company Mr. Pradeep assisted the students as they toured the network room. He also showed them the different servers and explained how these servers work.
Sohar Aluminum’s IT department head Mr. Othman Al-Balushi praised the efforts of the college in sending students for industrial visits as he encouraged the students to have the right attitude towards learning, and to develop not only their technical skills but also the so-called soft skills.
Mr. Al-Balushi also challenged the students to be the best that they could be in order for them to be more competitive in seeking their future employment.
The industry visit aimed to expose the students to real-time analysis and design practices being used by software development companies, to let them understand how the automated machines work, and to let them find out the scope and role of intelligent machines in the production scenario.
ShCT’s IT lecturers Mr. Gregory M. Danguilan, Mr. Narayanan and Ms. Anette G. Daligcon accompanied the group.
