Faculty presents paper in international confab, receives TESOL Arabia Travel-In Grant
English Language Center (ELC) lecturer Dr. Joseph Decena Dayag presented an academic paper during the 23rd TESOL Arabia International Conference and Exhibition 2017 (TACON) held at The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai, United Arab Emirates on March 9-11, 2017.
Moreover, Dr. Dayag was a recipient of the TACON 2017 Dr. Lisa Barlow Memorial Travel-In Grant, which is awarded to select presenters based on the rating given to their proposal by the Proposals Committee and the length of their TESOL Arabia membership.
The ELC lecturer shared the initial results of his ongoing study titled “EFL Virtual Learning Environment: Concerns and Challenges.”
His paper dwelt on the concerns and challenges encountered by lecturers in creating and sustaining their virtual learning environments (VLEs) in EFL settings.
In his presentation, Dr. Dayag posited that passionate EFL teachers create interactive and user-friendly VLEs to reach out to their students wherever they are and whenever they like.
Meanwhile, ELC lecturers and Staff Professional Development Team members Dr. Kalyana Thirunagari and Mr. Senthil Kumar Devarajan also attended the conference, which is the largest and most prestigious gathering of English language educators in the Middle East and North Africa.
Distinguished ELT practitioners like Dr. Dudley Reynolds, Dr. David Palfreyman, Dr. Kathleen Graves, Dr. Ali Al Issa, Dr. Ahmar Mahboob, Dr. Tom Farrel, Dr. Jonathan Newton, and Dr. Helena Curtain graced the event with their presentations related to the theme “Advancing the ELT Profession.”
